Mod Multi
MOD MULTI
Mod Multi turns any modulation source into five independent processors—same input, completely different behaviours. Create phase-coherent modulation networks with surgical control over timing, intensity, range, smoothing, and, polarity Then choose from 16 modulation FX per output.
One source in. Five modulation universes out.
What It Does
Each of the five processors gives you complete control:
- Delay (0-3000ms) – Offset timing for rhythmic phasing and polyrhythmic movement
- Multiply (0-200%) – Scale intensity independently per destination
- Trim (Clip/Wrap/Fold) – Control range behavior when modulation exceeds normal bounds
- Smooth (0-1000ms) – Add inertia, remove zipper noise, shape response curves
- Invert – Flip polarity for bidirectional control schemes
- Modulation FX:
- Attenuverter - Scale input via a factor from 1 to -1
- Gate - Pass the input through for a certain amount of time
- Skew - Warp values towards one or two extremes
- Unipolarizer - Restrict output to be unipolar
- Quantizer - Steps are equal height
- Sample And Hold - Steps are equal length
- Clip - Hard clip a signal in various ways
- Fade - Fade a signal in or out over the length of a ramp
- Slew - Limit the speed of increase and/or decrease in value
- Envelope - An exponentially decaying envelope is triggered when a zero crossing (from negative to positive) is detected
- Comparator - Output -1 or 1 depending on whether the input threshold has been reached
Visual feedback: Dual scopes show both your processed signal and the original input so you always know what's happening. As well as sliders inside the mapping mode so you can see all of the outputs together for comparison.
Works With Everything
Mod Multi doesn't reinvent the wheel with built-in LFOs or envelopes. Instead, it has a single mappable input knob that accepts ANY modulation source in Ableton—LFOs, envelope followers, Expression Control, MPE data, third-party Max For Live devices, literally anything.
This means it slots seamlessly into your existing workflow. No learning a new modulation system. Just route, map, and multiply.
This also means it is modular with any of my other modulation devices Ie Mod Math or Mod Mash. Chain multiple of these devices together for totally custom modulation.
See It In Action
📹 Demo Video #1: Dynamic EQ
Watch how an envelope follower + EQ Eight + Mod Multi creates frequency-dependent compression and spectral pumping that responds differently across bands.
📹 Demo Video #2: Sound Design
See Mod Multi drive multiple Wavetable parameters with subtle timing offsets and intensity variations for evolving, organic textures that never repeat.
Why You Need This
Dynamic Processing: Create reactive EQ, compression, and spectral effects that respond to your audio with independent attack/release characteristics per frequency band.
Sound Design Alchemy: Drive multiple synthesis parameters from a single modulation source with unique timing offsets and behaviors—perfect for bass music, hybrid trap, and experimental sound design.
Macros on Steroids: Why settle for one-to-one mappings when you can create five simultaneous variations with independent timing, scaling, and range behavior?
Evolving Automation: Set it and forget it—your modulation constantly evolves without pre-programmed clip automation.
Perfect For
- Reactive modulation systems that need phase-coherent but uniquely processed control signals
- Bass music sound design requiring multi-parameter modulation from single sources
- Creating organic movement and evolution without manual automation
- Sidechain-style pumping with surgical control over attack/release per parameter
- MPE and expression control routing with different response curves per destination
Quick Start
- Drop Mod Multi on any MIDI or audio track
- Map the input knob from any modulation source (LFO, envelope follower or, shaper)
- Route the five outputs to different parameters across your devices
- Dial in delay, multiply, trim, smooth, and invert to taste
- Watch your single modulation source control five parameters in completely different ways
Requirements
- Ableton Live 11 Suite or later (or Standard/Intro + Max for Live license)
- Also works with standalone Max 8
- Mac & PC compatible
- Tested in Live 12.3
Important: This is a Max For Live device, NOT a VST plugin.
